The Markets of the City

In Mataró you can find two kinds of market,  fixed markets and weekly markets.

The municipal indoor markets are managed by the City Hall. The market of Plaça Gran (the Rengle) has a very singular form due to the fact that it is a modernist market of small dimensions, whose walls lie side by side with the street. The market of Plaça de Cuba is presently in the middle of refurbishment. The indoor markets of Cerdanyola and the Palau are both privately owned .

Mataró has 7 weekly markets. The weekly markets or mercadals are as old as trade itself and act as a  channel for commercial distribution close to demand and take place outdoors, a fact which also characterizes them as an act of leisure and dynamization.

On Saturdays in Mataró, 6 weekly markets are in operation in different parts of the city. This fact positions Mataró as a Saturday market city with a large and attractive range of goods on offer. It also guarantees the city more visitors than on any other day of the week,  through a dynamic trade which brings the goods closer to the customer.

The weekly markets of Mataró are characterized by the large and varied range of goods on offer,  convenience of location and dynamism and, especially, as a meeting point for citizens where social relations are fostered.
