There has always been a lot of interest and passion for the theatre in Mataró. That  is why, in addition to the regular theatre and dance programming of the Monumental Theatre, the education and the creation support are the main objective of the cultural action of the city.

The "Aula de Teatre" (Theater Class) celebrates its 25th anniversary, and it is a reference point for the whole country. Youngsters from the secondary schools of the city work during the year in a common project that finishes in the Young Theater Festival, in June. The Monumental Theatre has a resident company "Art Trànsit Dansa", a dance company of international projection which involves its work  with the activities of the city. And the Scenic Creation awards are held annually, to carry out the scenic projects of young creators.
 
Mataró also holds the summer festival “Days of dance” and organizes the Shakespeare Festival.

 

L'Aula de Teatre (Theatre Class)

During the school year they do a lot of theater and dance courses. Moreover, during the school year and summer they organize several monographs on different topics about performing and they hold different kinds of students: youngsters, adults, elderly people, disabled people, social workers…

Art Trànsit Dance

The theatre company directed by the choreographer Maria Rovira has recently won the award "Premi Butaca" of the best dance spectacle for “The jump of Nijinski”. It tells the city about its “work in progress" , which culminate in shows that visit important theatres and festivals everywhere.

 

Teatre Monumental

The Monumental Theatre holds the programming of the Municipal Institute of Cultural Action (theatre, dance, small concerts, Youth Theatre Festival…), the family shows of Xarxa Fundació d'espectacle infantil i juvenil de Catalunya, shows by students of the Campanya Anem al Teatre, and a lot of shows by organizations and groups from different disciplines in the city.
