The Museum collection comes from different areas: artistic, historical, ethnological, archaeological and related to natural heritage. Since July 2006, the Museum collection can be visited in Ca l'Arenas, Arts Centre of the Museum of Mataró.

The Museum has an Archaeological intervention Area, which is devoted to the protection and recovery of the archaeological heritage of the city, making sure it is preserved, studied and promoted. It publishes, at least, one of the volumes of the magazine "Laietània" every year.
 
The Museum also has a Natural Sciences Section, consisting mostly of volunteers related to the natural environment of the Maresme. The work of this area is mainly devoted to research projects and promotion of subjects related to the natural heritage. It publishes he magazine "Atzavara"  periodically (link).
 
The section is coordinated by the Documentation Centre of the Park  "Montnegre i Corredor"(CDOC), where they are working for the research and promotion of  Maresme's natural heritage.
 
The Museum organizes a number of workshops and activities for public schools, and visits and guided tours for the general public from May to September.
