The posidonia is not a seaweed; it is a superior plant with terrestrial origin that had to adapt to live in the sea a million years ago. It grows in the sedimentary bottom between 0 and 40 depth meters, where they get enough light to do the photosynthesis. These meadowlands are of great importance for of the littoral ecosystem to work properly because they produce oxygen and a big quantity of organic matter, they structure habitats and they are one of the communities of the mediterranean sea bottom which are richer in any type of species. They are shelter areas for many species.
People who love mountains and forests can walk or do excursions on foot or by bicycle in the Parc del Montnegre i Corredo, with interesting places such as Can Bruguera, the Mata neighbourhood or the Parc Forestal. The Park is surrounded in the south and east by urbanizations with low density of population and in the west and north by forests. The hills of the park have two basic components: the pine groves and the grit areas. The viewpoints of Mataró and Maresme are two typical elements of the Parc.
